The Food Pyramid: A Great Base for Building a Better Life

FGÖ President and Health Minister Maria Rauch-Kallat and FGÖ Managing Director Dennis Beck

On launching the nutrition campaign on the food pyramid ("Die Ernährungspyramide baut auf!" (The Food Pyramid: A Great Base for Building a Better Life)), Health Minister Maria Rauch-Kallat emphasized that five of the seven main risk factors for serious diseases and death are connected to nutrition. The campaign aims to utilize available potential. It seeks to reduce risks of disease from poor nutrition and to help Austrians acquire a taste for healthier ways of eating and drinking. Dennis Beck, Managing Director of Fonds Gesundes Österreich (FGÖ), recommends a diet based on the food pyramid. This pyramid vividly shows what relative quantities of a given food group should be included in the daily diet of Austrians. No food is dubbed unhealthy or forbidden. But some types of food should be eaten only rarely. The campaign itself seeks to reach as broad an audience as possible, whereas nutrition meetings staged by Forum österreichischer Gesundheitsarbeitskreise (a forum of Austrian health work groups) attempt to cover the subject matter in greater depth in all federal provinces. FGÖ succeeded in winning over SPAR, Shell and Rosenberger as cooperation partners in this project.

The campaign centers on TV spots and ads in print and online media. Click here for more information.
