Born in Vienna, Hörhan studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, specializing in behavior-oriented management, project management and health care economics. Since his graduation with a master’s degree, Hörhan has worked in PR consulting at an agency and at ASFINAG, as a lecturer at the Institute for Business Administration at the University of Vienna and as an expert in the Economics Department at the Federation of Austrian Industry (IV). Most recently he worked as a cabinet member of the Federal Minister for Health and Women as the health promotion and prevention specialist responsible for strategic planning and as head of communication. He will draw on this expertise as the new head of Fonds Gesundes Österreich, a business unit of Gesundheit Österreich GmbH.
“Health promotion and prevention help people to stay healthy and to create positive life styles and healthy life settings for themselves and others. The future has important tasks in store for us but also great opportunities. Whether a global debate breaks out on a diabetes epidemic or a national debate on nursing care, health promotion is the field that holds the simplest and most lasting solutions to our problems. It is all the more encouraging that the Austrian political parties, for all their differences, have made a clear non-partisan commitment to health promotion. Our job now will be to use this opportunity to carry out health promotion for everyone in Austria, but especially for those who can benefit the most. In other words, health promotion needs a lobby.
As the national competence and funding center, FGÖ will actively work in the future to make the great potential of health promotion accessible to all groups of the population.”
