Silvia Stöger
Dr., Member of the Upper Austrian Government, representing the Conference of Health Specialists of the Austrian Federal Provinces
Silvia Stöger is a physician and a native of Lower Austria. After finishing medical school and receiving her doctorate in Vienna, the current minister of the Upper Austrian government worked at the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, among other places. She completed her training as a gynecologist and obstetrician at the 2nd University Women’s Clinic in Vienna. The mother of three children then worked in the practice of her husband, also a gynecologist, at the Lower Austrian Gebietskrankenkasse (health insurance institution). After moving to Linz in 1982, Dr. Stöger opened a gynecological practice. The committed physician also has training in psychosocial, psychotherapeutic and psychosomatic medicine and has been a minister of the Upper Austrian government for five years. In this post she is responsible for health agendas as well as women's issues, veterinary issues and animal protection. At FGÖ Dr. Stöger is a member of the FGÖ Board. She explains her reason for being involved in the FGÖ as follows:
"I was happy to take on this position because the FGÖ plays an instrumental part in raising the health consciousness of the population."
