Anita Rieder
Univ.-Prof. Dr., Institute for Social Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Vienna
A health psychologist and expert in social medicine, Professor Rieder has been at the Institute for Social Medicine of the University of Vienna since 1989 and was named a professor there in 2000. She has also taught abroad. Professor Rieder is a member of several bodies, including the Wiener Landessanitätsrat (public health council); the advisory council of the Vienna Women’s Health Promotion Program; the Oberster Sanitätsrat (supreme public health council), where she is also the chairwoman of the Public Health Commission; the Medical Sciences of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts; and the FGÖ Project Advisory Committee. Prof. Rieder has also been the scientific director of the Master of Public Health Program at the Vienna University of Medicine since 2005.
She explains her reasons for being on the FGÖ Board as follows:
"My motivation for being involved in the FGÖ as a specialist in social medicine is strongly related to the organization’s Mission Statement, namely: ‘...to eliminate any socially related differences in people’s chances for health and in their utilization of health promotion activities and measures. To further the spread of new ways of thinking and acting which promote health and to make them part of people's everyday lives in a way that also includes the social structures within which they live.’ Another task of FGÖ is to support continuing education and training in health promotion and in prevention in order to achieve the objectives of health promotion. As a member of the Vienna University of Medicine, I am particularly happy for our students about FGÖ’s commitment to the university program in public health."
