Nutrition

The Austrians are certainly amply fed, but not always with the right combination of vital nutrients. Average diets here are characterized by an excess of fat and calories. And this poor nutrition has consequences: About one-third of Austrian adults are overweight and some ten percent have a body-mass index of more than 30, a level scientists designate as “adiposity” or obesity.

These conditions have dramatic consequences. Unbalanced diets and excess weight encourage the development of lifestyle diseases like gout, diabetes, or unfavorable cholesterol counts in the blood, high blood pressure, arterial sclerosis, cardiac arrest or certain types of cancer.

That is why we have set the goal of helping people to change their eating habits and adopt a more balanced and varied diet. In cooperation with experts and treatment providers, we are seeking to reach this goal by providing information and education and by promoting pertinent projects.
