Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG)
The company currently includes the two business units “Fonds Gesundes Österreich” (FGÖ) and “Österreichisches Bundesinstitut für Gesundheitswesen” (ÖBIG; Austrian Federal Institute of Health). Bundesinstitut für Qualität im Gesundheitswesen (BIQG), a federal institute for controlling quality in health care, is to be set up in the near future as a third business unit.
Gesundheit Österreich GmbH is designated in the law as the universal successor of Fonds Gesundes Österreich and Österreichisches Bundesinstitut für Gesundheitswesen and has taken over all agreements and contracts of those organizations. The same is true of all employees of both funds, who are now employees of Gesundheit Österreich GmbH.
The Federal Government is the sole shareholder and is represented by the Federal Minister for Health and Women. There are provisions to have representatives of the Federal Government, the Austrian provinces (Länder) and the social security funds take part in the institute's meetings. The FGÖ Board and the FGÖ Advisory Council will remain in place for the business unit Fonds Gesundes Österreich. Two representatives of the Austrian Senior Citizens’ Council were added to the FGÖ Board. In the constituting general meeting, Dr. Heinz Frühauf was named as interim managing director and Dr. Michaela Moritz and Dennis Beck were appointed as provisional managing directors.
The Federal Act on measures and initiatives on health promotion, education and information (Health Promotion Act – HPA; known in German as “GfG”) remains unchanged in substance and continues to provide the legal basis of the substantive work of Fonds Gesundes Österreich.
